CARD ERROR 02 ISSUE:

Chances are, some of you have received the same error message after mistakenly formatting my CF card in the computer. Don't do this! Always, format in the camera. I've heard that it has to do with the way the file directory gets messed up by the computer and the camera can't associate the correct data block with the directory. I can't really confirm that but here's what I recognized with what this ERROR 02 was giving: While in the Canon EOS XT it was shot on, the camera can see 6 folder directories, but the computer would only recognize 5 of the 6 folders. And wouldn't you know it, it can't recognize the folder that has all the photos. Therefore, I couldn't download the images into any pc or external drive.

To recover the photos at the very least, I put the CF card into a newer camera. Mine just happens to be a Canon 7D. I've not tried this on other cameras like the 50D, 60D, or the 5D mark II, but I imagine it would work the same. But with the CF card in the 7D tethered to a pc for image download, the pc recognized the missing file that the Canon EOS XT could not. Then, it was a simple drag and drop into a new directory onto my pc from there.

I've read somewhere online that by then reformatting the card in a MAC using Mac OS X and writing zeros to the entire CF card, the camera was then able to see the card as just a regular "unformatted" CF card rather than some ERROR 02.

Good luck to you!
